WELCOME!
The Choir Effect was born out of a passion
for bringing people together in song
for all of the amazing benefits it provides.
We welcome anyone who loves to sing,
there are no auditions or experience necessary.
The music is chosen for how it feels to sing,
the songs are engaging and emotive
with popular songs that span decades!
The songs serve the choir to uplift
and leave members feeling good,
sharing the joy with the audiences
at performances supporting various local projects
and charities.
As a choir leader I have over 20 years experience in music
and directing choirs
as an ABRSM trained singer and pianist.
With many years in professional entertainment
as part of a successful vintage style close harmony trio,
a lead singer, and as a backing
vocalist working with original artists,
I have been privileged to perform for large audiences
at some of the UK's largest and most prestigious venues
with live TV and international radio performances to add to the list.
I'm also a trained Vocal Health First Aider
and a certified Cognitive Hypnotherapist
with a passion for helping performers and singers
achieve the best outcomes possible including confidence building
breath work, vocal technique and exercises for regular practice
that promote vocal health, especially for those
working with a gruelling schedule for vocal endurance.
As much as I love performing, I am passionate
about supporting others to find their voice through singing.

THE SCIENCE OF SINGING
Singing has been scientifically proven to increase the happy hormone, Seratonin which provides relief from stress, calms the mind and can help you to get a better nights sleep. Endorphins are released too which energises and uplifts even the most tired bodies and with correct breathing techniques, choir singing can also improve lung health and lower blood pressure, with other notable physical benefits too. Loneliness is a problem in the UK but being part of a choir brings together the community in a natural and positive way. Using our voices to help others in the way of charity fundraisers and events is another aspect of the feel good experience of choir! We cover a wide range of genres and each song is chosen for an uplifting and connected experience. This is enhanced with simple rhythmical movements such as side to side steps and a few clicks here or there to add another layer of cognitive functioning and to help get things moving. Singing can help us cope better with depression and other mental health issues such as anxiety. Many people who work in stressful environments such as teachers and NHS staff often join a choir because it's a fantastic way to tune out for a while, restore a sense of balance and just enjoy being in the moment with no pressure. Singing comes more naturally to us than we think. It exists in almost every single culture across the world and has always been a strong connection between people from all walks of life. Over the years I've seen so many positive changes in people who join a choir such as growth in confidence, find a renewed energy for life in general and some of my previous members have even found love! So many of us have had negative singing experiences in our youth, such as an overly strict school choir master or unwelcome criticisms from others which can really hold us back from trying it again. You will never be asked to sing alone or put on the spot but there is lots you will have the opportunity to join in with as your confidence begins to grow.

I DON'T SING BECAUSE I'M HAPPY
